What have we been up to you ask? Well, lots. Lots of life changing events. We decided it was time to make some big changes in our life. So, we are getting out of debt and leaving Portland to go travel the world. You read that right! We will be hitting the road!

Tikis in Paradise: Settling into Paradise

Once we got our luggage and rental car we headed to the Inn at Mama's Fish House for the first 10 days of our trip. We thought it'd be easiest to stay at the same place we were getting married at and the grounds are absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention that the food is perfect.

We checked into the garden studio which is a quaint little cottage with a lanai and a hop, skip and a jump to the beach. The cottage is so sweet with all of it's old Hawaii  touches. I knew instantly I was going to enjoy our time here. Let me take you for a little tour:

Tikis in Paradise: Hello Maui!

We have safety arrived on Maui. We are so happy to be here and to be in paradise for 15 days. We are so excited to see how everything unfolds and what adventures await us while we are here. This island is simply heaven.

Yesterday was trying for sure. Have you tried traveling for a wedding before? I'm not talking about traveling to have a destination wedding. I'm talking about taking all of your wedding items with you while traveling to have a destination wedding. It's not easy.

First trying to get everything to fit in our bags was insane. No matter what I did or what I took out I just couldn't get them under 50 lbs. Thankfully, Hawaiian Airlines has a 50 lb weight limit instead of only 40 or we would have been screwed. In the end, I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best that the weight on our bags would be 50 lbs or under when we got to the airport. Because things just happen to get lighter all on their own while sitting in suitcases. Don't they? Ok, maybe not.

Were our bags under the 50 lb limit? No, they weren't. One weighed in at 50.5 lbs and the other at 52 lbs. Thankfully the woman at the counter let it slide and didn't charge us the additional fee. We were so grateful for that! I could have kissed her! Our bags will be much lighter on the return trip once we use up all of the wedding items and give out all of our gifts. Both Drew and I will be very happy about that.

Next Week

Next week we will be on the beautiful island of Maui. Next week we will be getting married. Next week! Where did the time go and how did we get here so quickly to be able to refer to our wedding as happening next week?

When you start off planning a wedding more than two years before your wedding date there are plenty of times when it feels like it will never get here. And then all of a sudden, your day is almost here. There is no more time for planning, DIYing or anything else wedding related. Your day has come. Even quicker when you are having a destination wedding and leave almost a week before the wedding.

Can't wait to see this sign again on Sunday! 

TSA Says Yes to the Dress

Good news for all of you destination brides out there! Regardless if you are traveling back home or to a tropical island, TSA has said YES to the dress. A bride's wedding dress is one of the most important aspects of her wedding day. The idea of shipping it off in the mail or checking it in your luggage resulting in it being out of one's site is more than horrific. We want to keep our dress close and know it will arrive with us to our destination as perfect as it left.

Lucky for me, flying Hawaiian Airlines means that they're use to lots of brides flying to Hawaii to get married. It also means that they are very accommodating with wedding dresses. If you are flying to Hawaii, I highly recommend Hawaiian Airlines. Their service is top notch if you are flying to get married on one of the island, going for a vacation in paradise or going for business. They always take great care of their passengers.

It's best not to actually wear your wedding dress to the airport.
